WHEREAS, the issues between Iraq and the world community have not proven to be irresoluble by traditional diplomatic efforts; and

WHEREAS, the Congressional Budget Office estimates a military action against Iraq will cost our nation between $9 and $13 billion a month, likely resulting in further cuts in federally funded projects and programs that benefit our students and surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, the students of Knox College have the deepest respect for members of the armed forces of the United States who are willing to risk their lives to protect the United States; and

WHEREAS, a United States war against Iraq threatens to destabilize the entire Middle East Region, possibly resulting in regional war; and

WHEREAS, Millions of people in countries throughout the globe are already engaged in fighting other wars - the wars against world hunger, illiteracy, poverty and political oppression.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the majority of the students of Knox College urge the President to allow the United Nation's inspection process to continue in order to advance lasting peace and promote democracy, human rights, and human security for the peoples of Iraq and the world. We urge the President of the United States not to wage war on Iraq.

404 people voted in favor of the resolution.
100 people voted against the resolution.
37 people chose to abstain.

This represents 541 total voters, which is more than 50% of the total full-time student enrollment. Therefore, the resolution passes.
